Who we are…
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the civil nonprofit (501c3) volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force and chartered by congress to conduct three missions: Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs and Emergency Services (ES),
The basic organizational unit within CAP, a “squadron”, is a closely knit team of volunteers performing the missions lead by a Squadron Commander. Each member can volunteer in a number of capacities or skill areas. There is a role for everyone.
Pikes Peak Composite Squadron (PPCS) is an all adult group focusing primarily upon the Emergency Services and Aerospace Education missions. On occasion, members also work with Cadet Squadrons in the Pikes Peak region for training and orientation flights.
The Pikes Peak Composite Squadron is part of Group 3 of the Colorado Wing. Colorado, along with several other mountain states is part of the Rocky Mountain Region.
What we do…
PPCS works closely with the U.S. Air Force, other CAP units and community first-responders to serve our local area, but frequently fly all over Colorado and beyond to accomplish our assigned missions. Our staff positions include not only pilots, but observers, scanners, airborne photographers, logistics, chaplains, radio operators…the list goes on.
PPCS membership is composed of aircrew (pilots, observers, scanners and aerial photographers), ground crew (team members with specialties such as medical assistance, radio communications or ground search and rescue), and mission base specialties. Although previous experience in any of these fields is a “plus” training is internal (with the exception of pilots who must be previously licensed by the FAA) using volunteer CAP instructors qualified in the particular specialties.
Staff officers are also volunteers with additional training or experience in specialties such as personnel management, finance, air or ground operations, public affairs, and emergency services.

To become a member of CAP and PPCS, you will be required to fill out a CAP Form 12 (the Senior Membership Application), have your fingerprints taken, and pay the annual membership fee. As the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, we have the privilege of wearing the USAF style uniform with distinctive CAP insignia. A suitable uniform is required when participating in CAP activities.
